Thursday 12th & Friday 13th July – 10-2.30
I’ve been promising this workshop for a while now, but only just got around to making one of these beauties myself! Why did I wait so long?! Too much sewing, too little time.
Come along to this ‘double-date’ workshop and improve your technical sewing skills by producing a stunning back-pack. The pattern we’ll be using is the ‘Range’ back-pack by Noodlehead. There is a lot of cutting and prep-work, hence the two-day workshop, but what a joy to sew! The features of the Range include a neat zipped pocket to the front, a boxy contrast base, and internal slip pocket and a fold-over top with a simple ring closure.
Within the workshop fee I will provide all structural elements from the interfacing to the hardware, including a high quality YKK metal zip (please check if you have a specific colour requirement though) and right down to a fetching leather pull for your zipper!
All you need to bring are your chosen fabrics and lunch, though home-baked treats and endless drinks will be provided!
You will need to bring:
- Half a metre of exterior fabric (150cm wide) or 3/4 metre if the fabric is narrow.
- 40cms of contrast fabric for the base – faux leather or waxed canvas is ideal.
- 1.5m lining fabric – the lining fabric is also used for all straps but if you wish to use something different for these please ask me for quantities needed.
It is advisable to choose an exterior fabric with some weight to it, such as a canvas or linen. The fabric I used was labelled ‘home dec’. You can also use a ‘utility’ fabric like waxed canvas. You can use a lighter weight cotton, but more steps are included to stabilise this (interlining with canvas, and quilting of the back panel) so this isn’t ideal.
