Thursday 9th November: 10am-2.30pm
This sewing workshop is suitable for novice sewists, but you do need to have some experience and be confident sewing straight seams accurately (if you have completed An introduction to using a sewing machine you will be fine).
We will be making a simple yet nicely shaped tote bag, with optional contrast base. You will learn to construct ‘boxed’ corners at the base and add a lining, providing a neat finish. You can test your top-stitching skills and learn to use iron-on interfacing. Plain calico for the lining fabric, interfacing (if required) and cotton straps will be provided within the fee. If you would like to use waxed canvas for the base (as in the picture below), this is available at an additional cost of £5. You may, of course, choose to bring your own lining fabric or straps.
We will be using a Needleswift bag design, which will be supplied in a printed format. You may take the pattern away with you for future use, and written instructions will be provided to go with this.
If you consider yourself to be a more experienced sewist and would like to learn how to add an internal zipped pocket, please mention this when signing up for this workshop (depending on your sewing speed this could mean finishing your bag at home). You may even wish to add a more structured interlining – you may bring your own, or purchase ‘thermolam’ fleece at a cost of £2.50 per half metre.
To secure your place please make a Paypal payment, or email firstname.lastname@example.org with any queries.
