This is a 2 session workshop, running on consecutive Fridays from 10am-2.30:
Friday 12th May
Friday 19th May
Before I began teaching sewing, I spent five years designing, making and selling bags and accessories. The most popular style by far was this classic satchel bag. This design is exclusive to Needleswift – you won’t find this pattern anywhere else!
This 2-day workshop is for confident sewists who would like a challenge. Using a
professionally designed and printed sewing pattern (which you will take away at the end, with instructions), you will learn to cut and create the sturdy layers of this beautiful handmade satchel using interfacing and interlining. This bag features an internal zipped pocket, and an outer pocket which is covered by the flap. You will fit a magnetic snap closure, and also use strap hardware to create an adjustable cross-body strap.
Included in the cost of this workshop is: calico lining fabric; zipping; fusible interfacing; sew-in fleece interlining, and antique brass effect hardware.
I have allowed plenty of time to achieve a good result without rushing. People do sew at different speeds, and if anyone finishes early rest assured that we will make good use of any extra time, for example making a zipped pouch with leftover fabric, or learning how to design your own bag.
I have chosen not to supply the cotton strap webbing, assuming that most students would prefer to choose a specific colour to complement their fabric. I will however, advise on where to buy something suitable.
You will need to bring your chosen outer fabric (canvas is ideal), thread, and lining fabric if you prefer not to use calico.
