Friday 5th October: 10-1
This class is designed to be a simple introduction to sewing with ‘knit’ or ‘stretch’ fabric. We’re going to sew an infinity or ‘loop’ scarf using a specific type of stretch fabric called ‘Ponte Roma’. It’s a great fabric with which to begin your stretch-sewing journey because you need to use the same jersey-type needles and stitches as you will for any lighter weight fabrics, but Ponte has a lovely heavy weight/drape to it which makes it very easy to sew with.
Ponte Roma is now a very widely available fabric and you may have come across it on the high-street too. Much of it has a large polyester content, but if you stumble across one that is heavy on the viscose this is really lovely as viscose is a natural, breathable fabric.
All you need to bring is one metre of fabric and a matching spool of thread. I will provide jersey/ball-point needles, and you can bring your own machine or use one of mine.
